The Cuillins from Loch Coruisk – Digital Image

About this piece

2019 – Isle of Skye – Scotland, UK

Loch Coruisk and the Black Cuillin Mountains are the remains of an eroded magma chamber of a huge volcano that was formed some 60 million years ago. However, relatively young in geology terms, which gives them their distinctive jagged edge.

The only way to access the area is by taking a boat from Elgol across Loch Scavaig. I took this photograph on the short walk into the amphitheatre from the boat.  A rare sunny day on the Isle of Skye without low cloud blanketing the mountain tops.
